The Help is a film that portrays the social reality of the early ’60s, in the state Mississippi, located just south of the United States. Based on the best-selling book by Kathryn Stockett and directed by Tate Taylor, the film is a tale full of humor, realism and many emotions. This tape was not meant to be another ode to protest racism, it is much more than that. The performances of Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer ennoble the film for themselves, the chemistry between the two actresses transmits a sea of feelings by getting people to live and feel the story with them.
Skeeter, played by Emma Stone, is an aspiring journalist behind the society in which it is immersed, decides to write a book about all housekeepers who carry on their shoulders the heavy burden of a life that does not belong to them. On the other hand, Hilly Holbrook (Bryce Dallas), manages to become that character who we don’t only dislike for its obstinacy but also hate because we know that in reality there are still and always will be people like her: selfish, manipulative and hopelessly pedantic. The Help is not only great for its great performances, staging, photography, soundtrack and adapted screenplay, it is beautiful because it shows that even though sometimes we feel that we are locked in a cage, we can still find freedom in the smallest things.

Once I told the truth about that, I felt free. And I got to thinking about all the people I know. And the things I seen and done. My boy Treelore always said we gonna have a writer in the family one day. I guess it’s gonna be me.

Historias Cruzadas

Historias Cruzadas o The Help, por su nombre en ingles, es una película que retrata la realidad social de la década de los ‘60, en el estado Mississippi, ubicado al sur de Estados Unidos. Basado en el best-seller escrito por Kathryn Stockett y dirigida por Tate Taylor, el film es una fábula llena de humor, realismo y muchas emociones. Esta cinta no resultó ser otro título que de entrada alega ser sólo una oda de protesta al racismo, pues es mucho más que eso. Las actuaciones de Viola Davis y Octavia Spencer enaltecen el film por si solas, la química entre ambas actrices transmite un mar de sentimientos logrando que las personas vivan y sientan la historia junto con ellas.
Skeeter, interpretada por Emma Stone, es una aspirante a periodista que a espaldas de la sociedad en la que se encuentra inmersa, decide escribir un libro sobre todas las amas de llaves que llevan sobre sus hombros la pesada carga de una vida que no les pertenece. Por otro lado, Hilly Holbrook (Bryce Dallas), logra convertirse en ese personaje que no sólo detestamos por lo irracionalmente terco sino que también odiamos porque sabemos que en la realidad aún existen y siempre existirán personas como ella: egoísta, manipuladora e irremediablemente pedante. Historias Cruzadas no sólo es magnífica por sus grandiosas actuaciones, puesta en escena, fotografía, musicalización y guión adaptado, es hermosa porque nos enseña que a pesar de que a veces sintamos que estamos encerrados en una jaula, podemos encontrar la libertad en las cosas mas pequeñas.
